Dentist on the Road

So I never thought I would see the day when we would walk into a 100+ year Dentist office for some dental work.  Well it happened (Picture attached).

I expected to see a black dentist chair with a spit-tune and a Dentist carrying a stone hammer.

Actually, Sandy has been fighting a tooth infection and as we drove by this place I flippantly said there’s a Dental office knowing full well she would take one look at it and say “No Way”.  After all, she is the ex-waitress I dated 40+ years ago that would not go into a restaurant if the windows were dirty.  Never mind if the food was good.  If the windows were dirty, the silverware, plates, food-prep etc. is one step from being shut down by the Health dept.

She said, Yes, let’s stop.  That’s when I knew she was hurting as (Many of you know she is a tough cookie).

Well inside, the air conditioning was cool, the receptionist, and Dentist were young.  They took her right in, diagnosed the problem, and we were on our way with an antibiotic.

It reminded me of the old saying “You cannot judge a book by the cover”

Some things we have learned about Dental procedures in Canada.
  • They will not accept Dental Insurance.
  • Rates are reasonable.  $50 for appt, $19 for x-rays
  • They do accept Charge cards
  • The dentist will only write prescriptions to be filled within their own province.  (Province is similar to our U.S. states).  Once you move to another province, you will have to see another Dentist to get a repeat prescription.

This antibiotic should hopefully carry us for another 3 weeks so we can complete our trip and get back home for some dental work.
